About Dr. Anil Mehta

Anil Mehta is graduate in Civil Engineering, post graduate in Irrigation Management Engineering , and Ph.D in Civil Engineering (Integrated Water Resources Management)

Anil Mehta is a passionate practitioner and propagator of HARIT (Holistic Actions for Revitalization of Indigenous Traditions); and LiFE- Life Style for Environment. He is dedicated to preserving India's rich environmental heritage. Through his association with Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi, he collaborates with millions of citizens to revive and revitalize India's indigenous environmental ethos and traditions. By synergizing individual actions, he strives to combat the climate change crisis and foster a sustainable future. He believes that globally , the indigenous traditions of ecological sustenance shall be revived and synergised .Anil and PSG envision a global resurgence of indigenous ecological traditions, harmonizing local wisdom for a sustainable tomorrow.

Anil Mehta, is known as "Citizen Engineer". He has been working to protect and conserve lakes and water resources for the last 30 years.

He is the Principal and Lead researcher of the prestigious educational organization Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic, Vidya Bhawan Society, Udaipur and also the central team member of Jal Upkram, Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi. He has served on the AICTE's core group on preparing road map of conservation of the lakes of India.

Anil Mehta has also served as the honorary visiting faculty at International Centre for Environment Audit and Sustainable Development (ICED), an institution of comptroller and auditor general of India. He gives lecture; and arrange field orientation of IAAS trainee officers.

He is Principal of a Polytechnic, run and managed by prestigious Vidya Bhawan Society ( estd 1931)

He is the Founder Joint Secretary of the grassroots civil society organization, "Jheel Sanrakshan Samiti" (JSS). The JSS is a partner organization with a Global Water Partnership, and JSS supports and strengthens various Lake conservation citizen groups.

He has been awarded by various organizations. He is the recipient of the Dr Yashwant Rao Kelkar Award for Environmental Conservation Works.

Anil's primary area of research and working is citizens centric eco-technological management and operation of water recourses. He is recognized as an expert, advisor, researcher and propagator of Integrated Lake Basin Management (ILBM); Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM); and eco Centric Urban Planning.

He organizes and is being invited as a panel - a specialist in various national and international seminars, workshops on Environment, water management, sanitation and Smart Cities.

He has been an environmental activist working voluntarily to protect and conserve lakes and water resources for the last 30 years. He supports & strengthens various lakes and river conservation citizen groups.

Under the leadership of Dr M Chitale, the then Chairman of South Asia Technical Advisory Committe of Global Water Partnership, Anil contributed in developing India Water Vision - Framework For Action ; and also, Suggestive Conservation Plan for the Lakes of South Asia.

As Citizen Water Engineer, he was instrumental in Bio Control of Water Hyacinth; Establishment of Lake Development Authority; Preparation of PFR ; and eventually release of 125 crore National Lake Conservation Project for the conservation of Udaipur lakes.

Anil also played an important role in Eco Restoration of Ahar River of Udaipur. It was citizens project led by Jheel Sanrakshan Samiti and Udaipur Chamber of Commerce and Industries and SERI Pune. In this citizen project, a portion of most polluted stretch of Ahar river was treated and ecologically restored using consortia of bio culture, native plants and shrubs; and loose stones. This Citizen project was appreciated by the then Planning Commission ; and got shortlisted for National Urban Water Award.

Anil has also played in developing effective sewerage system for Udaipur. He has done extensive research and field study on sanitation with the help of Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi. He works on Faecal Sludge Management and is in the process of getting FSTP established under PPP Model.

Anil has also played and important role in inter basin transfer of water for Udaipur Lakes.

With the support of USAID's Global Water for Sustainability Program ( Florida International University ) , he assessed the IWRM status of Wakal River Basin.

Anil is associated with " MARVI" - led by Prof Basant Maheshwari of Sydney University.

MARVI's focus is on to develop an effective participatory groundwater monitoring program at village level, assess the effectiveness of current rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge structures and develop demand management strategies that will make the groundwater use sustainable. A team of scientists and Villagers ( Bhujal Jankars) are associated with the MARVI .

Anil is leading a research on Integrated Water Resource Assessment of Ahar River Basin.The Copenhagen University, Vidya Bhawan Society DHI, DA and Geological Society of Denmark and Greenland are jointly carrying out this research. Under this project, Anil is involving common citizens to understand the science of water ; and contribute in hydrological modelling of a River Basin.

Anil was signatory of the Udaipur Declaration 2015, "Healthy River – Healthy People". He was associated by the CSIRO, Australia in assessment of micro pollutants of a river getting waste water from the urban areas

He is the author of IWRM Capacity Building Manuals. These manuals have been developed for all stakeholders -- Farmers, Villagers, NGOs, Engineers, Administrators etc. He has also developed an extensive Modules on "Eco Centric Urban Planning and Development."

Anil has successfully collaborated with various eminent organizations around the globe and holds numerous publications under his name.

He was key note speaker in International peri urban conference, held in Capetown South Africa; Panel Spaeker in Saarc Sanitation Conference held in Colombo, Sri Lanka; India International Science Festivals, organised by the Govt of India--and various such local, national and international forums. He has led indian group in working group meeting organised by Arhus Municipal Corporation , Denmark , organised under green strategic partnership between Governments of India and Government of Denmark.

Anil has also done lot to improve the environment through Public Interest Litigations.

He writes lot in mass media and regularly do "Shramdaan " to play his bit as citizen in improvement of water resources
